One museum, three spaces

Le Grand Atelier extends over more than 3,000 m2 and offers three exhibition spaces:

auto Moto Vélo, with over two hundred vehicles and objects covering more than two centuries of the history of a civilization marked by the "land transport revolution"
the Manufacture d?armes de Châtellerault, its industrial and social history
the Cabaret du Chat Noir, created by Châtellerault?s Rodolphe Salis, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the poetic atmosphere of shadow theater and the ambience of Montmartre in the late 19th century.

History of the site

On the site of the former Manufacture d?Armes de Châtellerault since 1969, the museum occupies part of the assembly and finishing workshop built between 1886 and 1887 to a design by Duglin, an artillery captain. The building (M.H. listed), which is highly functional from an industrial point of view, is made up of large spaces.
This establishment is Accueil Vélo and offers specific services for cyclists.
